BRITISH WWI 1ST PATTERN BRODIE HELMET WITH A RARE TYPE OF SACKING COVER.

A fabulous example of the very first pattern all green Brodie helmet, rimless, non magnetic ,that has the tongued oilskin liner, which has been reversed inside the helmet. The helmet is also complete with its quite unique sacking cover that has a simulated pagri around the lower bowl area, very similar to the position of a pagri on a colonial helmet. The cover has never been off the helmet and is ragged at the edges, the remainder of the cover is very firm and strong and the original early light green finish can be seen through the cover itself. The helmet has its original brown leather strap, which is strong and firm. In four positions around the edge of the cover a collector has added threads to hold both the upper and lower parts of the cover in place. As previously stated, the 1st pattern liner that is oilskin tongued has been removed from the helmet by the original wearer and reversed so that the inner side, which is padded would be more comfortable in wearing.
