FRENCH 1870 GRAS BAYONET WITH AMERICAN HISTORICAL CONNECTIONS.
A very nice condition Gras bayonet, excellent blade. Marked in French along the flat back of the blade of the Arsenal at ‘St.Etienne January 1879’. Good wood grips slightly bruised. Rifle retaining system in working condition. Complete with its undamaged scabbard. This particular bayonet was originally from the estate of the well known western Sherriff Wyatt Earp. The bayonet was brought back from WWI by a Mr. John Flood, who was Mr.Earp’s personal secretary. When the museum was broken up in Tombstone Arizona the majority of the collection was sold to a Mr. David Roberts of Jersey, the collection then came up for sale in C&T Auctions in 2023.
