GERMAN WWI PRUSSIAN LEIB GUARD HUSSAR REGIMENT NCO TUNIC.
An ultra rare tunic being the 1909 pattern tunic known as the Attila, constructed in a lighter shade of field grey than normally encountered. All of the correct field grey frogging is in place with the exception of a run of approximately 35cm on the front closure edge of the tunic, this must have been removed for the ease of closing the tunic on the connecting pegs known as olives. Generally the tunic is free of moth, there are one or two snags to the material that have been depot or soldier stitched, complete with belt ramps at the reverse side, with its lower angled pockets with flaps. The tunic has an interesting but unresolved history, the markings inside the lining, apart from the size stamps, are for Army Group 7 with the first part of the date ‘19’ the second part obscured, then a marking for ‘HR.5’ which has been marked through, a further marking, which is indecipherable and a lower marking of ‘H.R.17’. Our theory is that the tunic was originally issued to the 5th Hussar Regiment who were part of Army Group 7, tunics were then needed by the Hussar Guard Corps, the totally unique collar lace and cuff lace in yellow, red and field grey was added to the collar and the cuffs, on the issue to the Leib Guard Hussar Regiment with the addition of the totally unique type of shoulder boards in yellow and red, which are slightly narrower than other Hussar Regiment shoulder boards with the lace having an upturned swirl on the inner side. NCO lace is fitted to the collar and cuffs and consequently the tunic has been issued to the Leib Guard Hussar Regiment. We have no theory as why the last stamping of ‘HR17’ is in place, which of course is the Brunswick Hussar Regiment. The NCO collar discs to the collar are missing, these are readily available. An extremely rare tunic from the Prussian Hussars of WWI. More extensive, extra images can be seen on our new Premium website, type in regimentalsmilitaria.co.uk in to your web browser.
