ENGLISH 15TH HUSSARS DRESS POUCH AND CROSS BELT.
A near mint condition pouch and belt, the pouch itself is completely free of moth, red base cloth with the highest quality hand embroidery available at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. This is a Kings Crown pouch with its matching Kings Crown belt. All of the Battle Honours of the Regiment up until the turn of the century on the pouch. The gold bullion wire is virtually mint bright, with its two attachment clips. The cross belt has good bright lace with all of the gilt to the metallic fittings good and bright. One of the brass studs that secures the belt to the pouch is complete with the pouch but has come adrift from its fixing point. The owner’s initials of ‘P V H’ are applied internally to the red leather of the cross belt. The Regiment first raised as the Regiment of Light Dragoons in 1759 known as the 15th Regiment of (Light) Dragoons with subsequent service right up until after the First World War the Regiment was retitled 15th King’s Hussars and was amalgamated with the 19th Royal Hussars in 1922. The Regiment paid an notorious role in the notorious Peterloo massacre in August 1819 when within the bounds of the United Kingdom a 60,000 strong crowd calling for democratic reform charged the Yeomanry, the Hussars were ordered to charge resulting in 15 fatalities as many as 600 were injured.
