PORTUGUESE WWI ENLISTED RANKS COMBAT HELMET.
Very little is known about the fact that Portugal had a considerable contingent on the Western Front during WWI, their base in England was in the New Forest and there is a memorial set there. English made helmets with fluted skull are scarce, this example with its original colour with its sweatband, inner liner and its very rare chinstrap. A very old collection label attached to the helmet, which reads “Portuguese Infantry WWI and possibly later obtained from Norman Hobson, price $12.” (Norman Hobson was a very big collector in the USA in the 60s &70s) We obtained this helmet in the United States.
