ENGLISH EARLY VICTORIAN TENTH FOOT OFFICERS PAINTING.

A superb oil painting 29x34 cm with frame 46x50 cm on canvas located in an equally fabulous gilded frame of an unidentified officer of the 10th foot, the Lincolnshire Regiment, the painting is of head and upper bust of this unidentified officer, wearing his coatee and winged epaulettes, with his 10th foot cross belt plate visible, holding his Bell top shako in his left hand, the painting can be dated after 1847, as he is wearing his Military General Service medal for the peninsular wars with three bars, the medal itself not issued until 1847. Some slight age to the painting around the left-hand elbow and the area just above the Bell top shako otherwise excellent condition. The gilded frame is surmounted by a magnificent Victorian coat of arms which appears to have a family crest to the centre, the frame has some slight cracking and chips, some of the plaster to the lower edges missing but overall is in good bright gilded condition.
