GERMAN WWII 23RD PANZER DIVISION SOLDIER’S BERGMUTZE.

An M.42 overseas cap, which has been converted possibly at regimental tailor level into a Bergmutze for a member of the 23rd Panzer division. The cap is not size stamped, it is either 56 or 57, excellent nap to the cloth, one single air vent, double button front with a one-piece Bevo woven grey eagle on green background with a national cockade , insignia hand applied, the coloration of the peak is a slightly different shade of field grey green than the main body of the hat. It has seen considerable wear to the inside and the peak is without doubt original to the cap from its time of conversion, the wear around the lower forehead is spread on the satin lining and on the peak itself, evenly. To the left side of the cap is the oval section of field grey with a hand embroidered silver grey insignia of the 23rd Panzer Division.
