GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE M40 SNOW CAMOUFLAGE HELMET.

Out of all the helmets of the Third Reich period to find an absolutely 100% genuine white snow covered helmet is extremely difficult, this is a standard M.40 single decal Luftwaffe helmet, which has been over-painted in white, the vast majority of the original paint finish remains, there is definite clear cracking in the paint especially on the crown area and the right hand side of the helmet as the helmet is worn. Rust bleed has started on the lower rim and worked up through the steel close to the area where the bowl starts, this is the area where there is some losses of the original white covering. The single Luftwaffe decal can slightly be seen below the paint but more so can be felt with the finger. Traces of the Luftwaffe blue grey finish can also be seen in very tiny areas of the white covering and definitely Luftwaffe blue grey can be seen in the areas of rust bleed. To the interior the M.40 liner is generally complete, 8 of the 9 original tongues are still complete but are very dry and if moved would break, the stitching at the back of the liner has rotted and the leather is open. The strap posts are complete but rusty. The interior bowl still has its Luftwaffe blue grey finish but the white finish has been painted to the inside of the inner skirt and there is a large degree of loss of paint in that area. A fantastic Eastern Front recovered helmet.
