GERMAN WWII GERMAN CROSS IN GOLD, BATTLE WORN.

A very interesting German Cross in Gold, six rivet type, made by Deschler & Sohn, heavy version. We would love to know the history of this battle/service used example of the German Cross in Gold. The majority of the enamel from the swastika is broken away, all of the red enamel on the ring below the wreath is complete, the finish to the front of the award has faded. On the reverse side the six Deschler rivets all in place. The pin, catch and hinge system is totally original to the award and we can tell it has been used by the way that the pin has been bent inwards, this is a characteristic we have noticed on many German breast worn awards where the recipients tended to bend the pin inwards so that when the pin was slipped through the loops on the uniform the bent pin would reduce the distance between the award and the inside of the pin, therefore securing the award to the tunic in a more firm manner. The Deschler six rivet examples were never maker marked.
