GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE AIRFIELD ENGINEERS ENLSTED MANS OVERSEAS CAP.

A very heavily used, possibly size 56 Luftwaffe enlisted mans overseas cap for the rare unit of airfield engineers. To the exterior the nap of the cloth it is very thin with the exception of underneath the side curtains and in between the folded envelope at the top of the cap, some of the side stitching has rotted through age. Hand applied enlisted ranks eagle, the national cockade has fatigued with consequently some loss of threads. On the upper edge of the side curtains is the woollen twisted cord waffenfarbe in airfield engineer pink. To the interior, again well service used with some fraying of the interior brushed cotton lining, sweat stains in the forehead area. An original owner’s name of ‘Heit’ machine woven in red on white background. At some time in its life this cap may have been in a theatrical costumier’s inventory indicated by two large numbers stamped into the brushed cotton lining, which is indicative of theatrical costumier’s inventory stampings that we have seen and had before. At the very rear of the cap the stitching is undone slightly to a length of 1cm. A rare branch of the Luftwaffe service.
