A magnificent example of the last pattern shako worn by The Cameronians, The Scottish Rifles. All dark green covered body, complete with its correct width floriated bands of black lace to the top and lower section of the helmet, its correct woven black front button with a dark grey patinated star affixed, its officers quality Rifle bugle horn, which matches the fluted plume holder, complete with its black ostrich and vulture feather plume, which has its original ring situated in the area between the vulture and ostrich feathers. Black silk cord plait surrounding the helmet with its twin hanging acorns. The helmet is complete with its black leather strap. To the interior the white Morocco leather sweatband superb with evidence of slight wear use. To the interior the purple silk lining all intact with a good bright gold blocked ‘Hawkes & Company Helmet Cap and Accoutrement Makers, Piccadilly, London’ imprinted to the upper inner crown area. Not one area of moth damage on the cap, a super example.
